Flu Bugs Got Us

One type of flu bug got my daughter, Missy, and another type of flu bug got me. And it really, really got me.

I had a headache, sore throat, cough, and a fever. It started last Thursday and I still have it today. Although I'm somewhat better today.

Yes, I did get a flu shot this year, but that' s such a shot in the dark (pun intended).

If I'm ever rich, when I get a cold, I want to be admitted to a hospital, made unsconscious, and then woken up after the cold symptoms are gone.

150 TV channels helped me through it. Some of the movies I watched:

Dirty Dancing: This was still enjoyable and that it is somewhat dated actually adds to its charm.

Electric Horseman: Robert Redford and Jane Fonda star in this movie about an aging cowboy who loses his way in the world but with the help of a good horse and a good woman, finds his way back on the right path. I remember this movie fondly but it wasn't as good this time around. The dialogue was pretty cliche and the anti-corporation themes don't play as well. It seemed to be too much of a formula movie this time around. But these are different times.


Ray
Rented this movie. Being fond of Jazz, R&B, and Ray Charles, I enjoyed this movie and was impressed with Jamie Foxx's performance as Ray Charles. I hope Jamie wins an Oscar. I thought he was very believable and it had to be very difficult to portray a well known singer like Ray Charles. And this was quite a stretch from the comedy roles that Jamie Foxx normally performs. I'm also pulling for Sharon Warren, who portrays Ray's mom, to get an Oscar. And Kerry Washington, as Ray's long suffering wife, also gave a great performance.

Well, I'm starting to cough again. So, it's back to bed for me.

This is a poor man's version of Mardi Gras. I'm standing in my upstairs hallway next to my New Orleans poster, wearing my beads and French Quarter T-shirt, and drinking a beer. I am out of Voodoo beer so I was drinking Devil's Tower Lager.

One of our favorite places to vacation every year is New Orleans. And for the next few days, it's Mardi Gras in New Orleans. You can watch and listen to it at nola.com. (Note: there is brief nudity at times.) We love the seafood, Beignets (like powdered doughnuts), and the French Quarter.
